I'm not quite as far as I would like where the literature review is concerned but I think I'm getting there. I've pulled more than 30 articles so far. The method I use is to pull summary sentences of direct quotes that I find helpful in each article and then type them into a word document. After they are all in I sort the quotes based on the themes that I'm writing about. I combine ideas into coherent sentences and paragraphs, including direct quotes when I have found something spectacular. This process allows me to easily site more than one article while comparing and contrasting the different ideas that I have discovered. I'm about 10 articles into the process which I have in a different file for and then will combine it into the total progress.
I need to get more motivated on this literature review!!!

Well Leah you are way farther than I am on the literature review so don't stress too much. I dread the literature reviews because I feel that when I look for articles it is not directly related to my project. So I stress out too much. I have seen your work in the past and I know you will do a great job. Oh just to let you know, I like your strategy of how you do your literature review and I think I'll steal that and use it while I do my literature review. Thanks and keep up the excellent work.
ReplyDeleteLeah - you have a great method for organizing your sources...I think I might have to steal it from you. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are way ahead of me and with a plan. Have you thought about your three main focus? Also, do not forget to look at the references at the end of each article, as Dr. Newberry suggested, you might find other useful read.
ReplyDeleteCurrently I have 4 areas of focus although I will probably need to narrow it down. I looking at:
ReplyDelete1. Formative versus Summative Assessments
2. History of Computer Based Assessments
3. Online Assessment Tools
4. Student Motivation Using Online Assessments
We'll see how the research goes. So far I have read about 20 of the 30 or so articles I pulled. I'm finding quite a bit of good information and it's nice that at least 3 of the four topics seems to be inter-related in the research.
